I became septic after a UTI that sent me to ICU for 3days. (Sepsis and Urinary Tract Infections) Weeks after I got out of hospital. I had to several trips to the E.R. Related to anaphylactic shock due to allergic reactions of unknown causes. After seeing an allergist it was determined that I had no allergies. My problem was mast cell activation syndrome caused by septic shock. I take allergy medicine every day. And carry an EpiPen. I am on a low histamine diet. Lately I have several issues related to mental problems, cognitive decline, memory loss, inability to process ... Read Full Story

I had just turned 29 and had gastric sleeve. About 6 days later I experienced a high fever, dizziness, and overall bleh feeling. (Sepsis and Surgery) I had gone to the ER and was advised I was going in septic shock. They couldn’t get a blood pressure reading on me, had a super elevated heart rate, and high fever. It was soon discovered that the gastric sleeve leaked. The quick actions of the nurses and doctors that evening were able to get me stabilized and transported to a bigger hospital. I spent 5 days in ICU and another 4 days ... Read Full Story

End of October I had to get a colostomy that was pretty hard to deal with at first. Fast forward to a week before Thanksgiving had to go back into hospital for a hernia repair and prolapse (intestine came out of stomach). Basically since day after Thanksgiving until 3 weeks ago I don’t remember much. (Sepsis and Surgery) I ended up with sepsis and basically went crazy. Sepsis set off a massive inflammatory reaction in my body and caused me to develop a serious brain problem called toxic metabolic encephalopathy (TME), a type of delirium. I was in hospital on ... July 8, 2025 is the day my life was altered forever. I was 18 years old and already dealing with severe complications of hEDS [hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome]. Those complications culminated in me needing a PICC line while recovering from port-a-cath surgery. (Sepsis and Invasive Devices) The early morning of July 8th I woke up to a swollen, red and hot arm in which my PICC dwelled. Of course having the catheter you are informed to immediately proceed to the ED if those symptoms present. Unfortunately the first doctor only did a Venus duplex ultrasound and missed a large DVT and ... Read Full Story

On January 31st, 2023 at 28, after suffering from an extremely sore throat, I went into septic shock and had toxic shock as well. All from strep throat, which I had never even had as a kid! (Sepsis and Strep Throat) There’s arriving at the hospital and then about a 3 week gap in memory, replaced by bizarre dreams. My kidneys and heart both failed and I narrowly escaped needing ECMO. I was in the hospital and rehab for about four months. I had my right arm below the elbow amputated as well as my fingers and toes. Three months ... Read Full Story
